We Own the Night

There is no singular hour of television that affects me as deeply and in so many ways as The Boiler Room episode of MSCL. Probably because I was definitely not the kind of girl who could’ve ever handled the boiler room…Every single moment of this episode just pulls on each individual string in my heart. Angela’s casual observance of Abyssinia’s lying to the boy she likes about failing Geometry, Angela telling Rayanne she feels like her lips have been “permanently frosted,” her trying so hard to play it cool to angle an invite to the Buffalo Tom concert from Jordan…that overwhelming sense of disappointment and heartache when he rejects her, the swelling pride and love for Rayanne when she charges Jordan at the pool hall to give him what for…

…And that most glorious of moments when Jordan finally grabs Angela’s hand in the hallway while “Late At Night” plays and all her friends know a big shift has come in her life.

So much so that that song stirs some serious emotions in me every time I hear it to this day.

That’s a whole lot of rambling to say I really love the hell out of this show.
